What do you do with these maps?

First visit Illinois Public Domain Land Sales at http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/data_lan.html (Ford is county 27 here)

Or the BLM Land Patent Grants at http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ and hunt for your ancestors.

Jot down the Township, range and section number then come back here to our map page.  For my possible GGG-Grandfather William Stewart the infomation was County 27 Township 24N (T24N), Range 07E (R7E), Section 25. Now I find the point where T24N & R7E intersect in (Sullivant Township), view the plat map for that section and walla, that little square with a number 25 on it in Sullivant Township is the section where my ancestors would have lived in 1852!!

The sections were divided further into section parts (eg: Section Part E2NW, Section Part  E2SW) but we do not have those maps (Plat Maps) available to us at this time.
